BalCannes, the regional advertising agencies’ showcase, is open for application for agencies from Slovenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia. All the submitted entries will be shown as part of the BalCannes screening program at the Weekend Media Festival. All year long, BalCannes Yellow Pages, an agency database comprising the BalCannes participating agencies in the region, alongside a contact book, will be available to clients.

Even though BalCannes is not a competition, agency representatives will be able to additionally showcase the total of 25 most interesting projects to all the participants via 5-minute presentations at the main Weekend Hall, during festival primetime, and some of them will participate in a series of BalCannes panel discussions that will be held as part of Weekend Media Festival's programme. The best BalCannes agency will be awarded with a special recognition from Media Marketing, and all agencies will have a full page spread in Media Marketing's yearly book that will come out January 2015.

BalCannes, the regional advertising agencies’ showcase, is open for application for agencies from
Slovenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia. All the submitted entries
will be shown as part of the BalCannes screening program at the Weekend Media Festival. All year
long, BalCannes Yellow Pages, an agency database comprising the BalCannes participating agencies

Selection

The 25 most interesting projects will be selected by a group of expert journalists specializing in
marketing. The selection will take place on September 24th in Rovinj. Even though journalists will
discuss all the cases, the scoring process is anonymous and done via on-line judging application. All
journalists will go through and score all the submitted entries, apart from entries from their own
respective countries and entries that they have a conflict of interest with; in such cases the journalists
in question will be excluded from scoring the said entries. Application categories do not affect the
scoring process. Scores from 1 to 100 will be given to the submitted entries based on the three main
criteria:


1. Originality of the creative idea
2. Quality of its execution
3. Market relevance (results, market success)

Following the scoring process, the organizer will tally the score for each of the submitted entries. The
top 25 entries will be showcased as part of the Weekend Media Festival program, through 5-minute
presentations during festival primetime. The top 25 entries will be known by September 25th at the
latest and the applicants will be informed about it so they can prepare the 5-minute presentations of
their entries.

In order to ensure equal representation, among the select works there can be only three entries from
the same agency. Should there be four or more entries from the same agency, the additional entries
will not be showcased but will be replaced by the following highest-ranked ones.

Categories

Your top works and projects can be submitted in 10 different categories, based on which the
BalCannes screening sessions at the Weekend Media Festival will be organized.

The categories are as follows:

1. Food
2. Beverages
3. FMCG
4. Financial and insurance services
5. Telecommunications services
6. Transport and automotive industry
7. Humanitarian campaigns and social actions
8. Self-promotion and corporate image
9. Other
10. Low budget campaigns (up to EUR 50.000)


The organizer reserves the right to re-categorize the submitted entries. The application category will
not affect the selection of the top 25 entries; they are ranked based on their total scores.

Applications

The application process, featuring 10 different categories, is open for all the interested agencies. All
entries are submitted in the form of 3-minute videos (an mp4 video file, min. resolution 720 x 576,
max. 120 MB) showing the creative materials and briefly describing the set challenges and market
context as well as the selected solution and achieved results. Furthermore, the application should
state the main partners that have contributed to the quality of the entry, including the name of the
advertising company as well as primary and, possibly, secondary agencies, and even individual
recognitions and all the authors who have contributed the most to the success of the campaign.
The submission process is carried out online (balcannes.com), at a fee for the first four entries by
the same agency (the other entries require no fee). Eligible for submission are works and campaigns
realized until September 10th 2015 (it is essential that the entries were shown at least partly until
then). All entries can be submitted in either the language of origin or in English.

Eligible for submission are works and campaigns that were published more than once by one or more
different media, in one or more countries. Only those works that the advertisers have approved and
used as well as made public and implemented during the qualifying period can participate in the said
categories.

By submitting entries to BalCannes, the agencies confirm they have the advertisers’ approval. Entries
that do not comply with these criteria will be disqualified, thus safeguarding the event’s integrity and
making sure that the other entries have a decent opportunity to succeed.

Fees

After filling out the online form, which requires details on the contact person and company paying the
fee, a pro forma invoice will be sent to the email stated in the application form. In order for the entry to
be accepted in competition, the said invoice has to be paid by the due date (September 20th, 2015).
The submission fee totals EUR 132 / HRK 999 + VAT (25%), and EUR 119 / HRK 899 + VAT (25%)
for the members of HURA, SOZ, IAA and AMAC, and debitant agencies.
Special offer 4+: The first four entries by the same agency will require submission fees, while the fee
will be waived for all further entries (fifth, sixth, seventh etc.).
All those who apply for BalCannes will get a special discount to Weekend Media Festival’s registration
fee: in their case the fee will amount to HRK 2,200 + VAT (the fee in question is not included in the
BalCannes’ application fee).

Terms of participation

BalCannes accepts applications for all market communication entries, provided they comply with the
following descriptions and requirements. Entries have to be:

• Creative products by companies registered in the territories of Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro
• Published more than once by one or more different media, in one or more countries, until
September 10th 2015
• Submitted to BalCannes with advertisers’ previous consent
• Submitted in the form of a max. 3-minute video summary (an mp4 video file, min. resolution
720 x 576, max. 120 MB)
• Properly presented in a video summary that comprises creative materials, brief overview of
the set challenges and market context as well as solutions and results achieved
• In English or the language of origin
• Submitted to BalCannes no later then September 10th 2015 - PROLONGED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 20TH
• For which the organizer has received a payment in line with the valid pricelist by the required
deadline (September 20th 2015)
• Entries for which there are copyright and codes, in line with the laws and regulations of the
country of origin

By submitting entries to BalCannes, the agencies confirm they have the advertisers’ approval. Once
submitted, the application is considered final and the information stated in it cannot be subsequently
changed. Moreover, by submitting the applications, authors are assumed to be giving consent and
authorizing the organizers to publish the submitted entries in their original form for any requirements
regarding the project. All contacts and information provided during the application process will be used
exclusively to forward any relevant project-related information to the authors.

In the case of any breach of the Terms of Participation, the entries concerned will be immediately
excluded from further competition. Furthermore, in the case of extreme breaches of the Terms of
Participation, the entries concerned can be suspended until further notice, with the information about
the breach and suspension forwarded to the publics.
